A holistic dentist for patients across the Northeast and beyond

Natural Dentistry and Ceramic Implants is a destination holistic and biological practice just outside of New York. Patients come from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and the rest of New England, and many fly in from across the US. Most come for specialized care, such as zirconia implants, safe amalgam removal and root canal alternatives, rather than for a neighborhood checkup.

What is a holistic dentist?

A holistic dentist is a licensed dentist who looks at your mouth as part of your whole health. That means choosing biocompatible, metal-free materials, preserving natural tooth structure, and asking about your health history, sensitivities and goals before recommending treatment.

Dr. Yuriy May, DMD, FAAID, leads care at Natural Dentistry. He has over 14 years of experience, is a Certified Biological Dentist with the IABDM, and is an Accredited S.M.A.R.T. certified member of the IAOMT.

Holistic vs biological dentistry: is there a difference?

The two terms overlap. Holistic dentistry is the philosophy: treat the person, not only the tooth. Biological dentistry is the clinical method behind it: material testing, safe removal of mercury fillings, metal-free implants and gentle surgical technique. At Natural Dentistry you get both. For the clinical side in detail, read our biological dentist page.

What makes a cleaning holistic?

  • Ozone. Hygiene visits include an ozonated oral rinse, and ultrasonic scalers run with ozone water for most cleanings.
  • Fluoride-free products. Products are chosen for biocompatibility, and non-fluoride options are offered.
  • Trained hygienist. The hygienist is trained in biological protocols by Dr. May and screens for signs worth discussing with your physician.
  • Comfort. Ultrasonic scaling is usually faster and more comfortable than hand scaling alone.

What to expect at your first visit

  1. Inquiry form. Tell us about your situation. It takes about 10 minutes.
  2. Intro email. You get appointment details and costs for local and traveling patients.
  3. Exam and imaging. Dr. May reviews your health history, examines your teeth and gums, and may take a low-dose 3D scan.
  4. Your plan. He explains what he finds, your options, and what each step costs. You decide what to do and when.

Some patients come to a holistic dentist because of broader health concerns. Evidence on links between dental materials and whole-body conditions is limited and still debated. Dr. May evaluates each case and is clear about what dental care can and cannot do.

Why patients choose Dr. Yuriy May

Is holistic dentistry right for you?

Holistic dentistry suits you if you want metal-free materials, a careful approach to old fillings, and time to understand your options. It also suits patients with known sensitivities who want materials tested before treatment.

It has limits. Holistic care uses the same core procedures as any dental office, with the same risks, such as sensitivity after a filling or an implant that does not integrate. Some protocols take longer and cost more than standard care. And no dentist can honestly promise that dental work will fix a health problem elsewhere in the body. Dr. May tells you what he expects, what is uncertain, and what you can do at home to keep results healthy.

Questions to bring to your first visit

  • What do you see in my mouth that needs attention now, and what can wait?
  • Which materials would you use, and should I test for sensitivity first?
  • If I have silver fillings, how would you remove them, and over how many visits?
  • What will each step cost, and what might insurance cover?

If you are comparing practices for zirconia implants, our guide on how to find a zirconia implant dentist lists the training and questions that matter.

Holistic dentistry for families and kids

Natural Dentistry sees children as well as adults. Care for kids focuses on prevention, safe materials, gentle visits and healthy jaw and airway development. Learn more on the holistic pediatric dentistry page.

How much does a holistic dentist cost?

Cost depends on what you need: the number of teeth, the materials, whether grafting or imaging is required, and how many visits are involved. Some biological protocols take more time and equipment than standard care. Your consultation gives you the exact figures before any treatment. See insurance for how coverage works.

How out-of-state and fly-in patients are seen

Natural Dentistry welcomes patients from across the US and abroad every week, so the visit is planned before you book travel.

  1. Case review first. You complete the new patient forms and email a recent CBCT (3D) scan, and sometimes a panoramic X-ray or photos. A $500 case review deposit goes toward your first new patient appointment.
  2. Estimate and plan before you fly. You receive an outline of likely treatment and an estimate of costs, plus any pre-surgery supplement protocol and, for surgery, a request for bloodwork. By the time you buy airfare, you know the cost, sequence, recovery and how many visits to expect.
  3. A short, planned stay. Most traveling patients stay 3 to 4 working days, with a 2-day minimum and up to a week after extensive surgery. A typical trip: new patient appointment on Monday, treatment on Tuesday, more treatment or a follow-up on Wednesday, and a follow-up or travel home on Thursday.
  4. Much can be done on the first trip. Evaluation and planning, extractions, titanium implant removal, cavitation surgery when indicated, zirconia implant placement, PRF grafting and sinus lifts can all be scheduled during that stay.

Yes, when they are needed to diagnose safely. Natural Dentistry uses low-dose settings, including a low-dose 3D CBCT scan, so you get the information needed with as little radiation as practical.

Will a holistic dentist pull my root canal tooth?

Does holistic dentistry take insurance?

Many holistic treatments are standard dental procedures, so dental insurance may cover part of them. Coverage for items like zirconia implants or material testing depends on your plan. The team explains how it applies after your consultation.

Can I see a holistic dentist here if I live in New York, Boston or further away?

Yes. Most patients come from outside Connecticut, from New York, New Jersey and the rest of New England, and many fly in. The team reviews your scan and sends an estimate before you travel, and plans treatment in as few trips as possible.
